TM Auto was established in 1993 as the official dealer of Japan's biggest auto maker Toyota Motor Corp. for Bulgaria.
It was established as a fully-owned subsidiary of Japan-based Tomen Corporation.
In December 1998, Tomen sold a 40% stake in TM Auto to Greek auto dealer Toyota Hellas, which is part of UK-based car dealer Inchcape.
In June 2002, Tomen Corporation - now part of Japan's Toyota Tsusho Corporation - sold 20% of its stake in TM Auto to Inchcape International Group B.V., while Toyota Hellas also transferred its 40% stake in the Bulgarian car dealer to Inchcape.
In May 2007, the company opened a showroom of Lexus cars in Sofia and currently is the only Bulgarian dealer of the brand. In August 2007 the company announced that it will be only dealer of Toyota cars for Bulgaria, with Toyota Balkans being the official representative of the brand.
