German logistics company Schenker first opened a representation office in Bulgaria in 1889. The company had to close down its representation in the country after former communist regime came to power in 1944. Schenker, which is the logistics arm of Germany's national rail operator Deutsche Bahn, came back to Bulgaria in 1993 by establishing a local subsidiary.
In 1999 the company opened offices in Ruse and Varna, in 2001 - in Plovdiv and Sevlievo, and in 2003 - in Bourgas.
The company, which operates six logistics facilities with a total area of 10,540 square metres, works for international majors like Volkswagen, Schneider Electric, Siemens and a number of Bulgarian companies.
