Vinzavod Asenovgrad, which was established in 1947, specializes in production of red wines and spirits.
The winery, located in southeast Bulgaria, has an annual capacity to produce 12 million bottles of red wines and process 10 million kilogrammes of grape.
It focuses on production of red wine sorts such as Merlo, Mavrud, Roubin, and Cabernet Sovingon.
Its traditional markets are Germany, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Vietnam and Canada.
The winery produced 3.09 million bottles of wine in 2004 and 384,000 bottles of other spirits.
In May 1997, Bulgaria's industry ministry sold a 59% stake in the winery to local company Vini-AS for USD 1.95 million. The buyer, which later expanded its stake to almost 90%, pledged to invest another USD 1.68 million in the company. The winery has announced plans to expand its own vineyards to 200 hectares by the end of 2006.
In 2012 Vinzavod AD Asenovgrad produced 984,000 bottles of wine and 122,000 bottles of other spirits.
