Natural gas distribution company Overgas Mrezhi was established in 2001, under the Sofiagas name, when it spun-off from local Overgas Inc. It is engaged in the distribution and supply of natural gas and is also engaged in the design, construction and exploitation of the natural gas pipeline networks.
In April 2015 Bulgarian gas retailer Overgas decided to merge 4 of its subsidiaries - Overgas Zapad (gas distribution and supply licence for the municipalities of Kyustendil, Montana, Mezdra, Petrich, Bansko and Razlog), Overgas Iztok (gas distribution licence for the municipalities of Burgas, Karnobat, Aytos, Nesebar, Pomorie, Sozopol, Primorsko, Tsarevo, Stara Zagora, Nova Zagora, Yambol, Novi Pazar and Varna), Overgas Sever (gas distribution licence for the "Dunav" territory and the municipalities of Ruse, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Veliko Tarnovo, Lyaskovets, Popovo, Razgrad, Isperih, Lovech, Pavlikeni and Levski) and Overgas Yug (gas distribution licence for the municipalities of Asenovgrad, Parvomay, Pazrdzhik and Peshtera) into Sofiagas (gas distribution and supply licence for the capital city of Sofia, including the Bankya district and Bozhurishte) and rename the latter into Overgas Mrezhi.
