One of Bulgaria's leading cable and wire producers Elkabel AD, which was established in 1947, is based in the Black Sea port of Burgas. The firm's product range features power cables, telecommunications cables, flexible cables, conductors and bare stranded conductors. It operates retail stores in Sofia, Plovdiv and Burgas.
Elkabel was the first company in Bulgaria to be privatised through the local stock exchange in 1998. In June 2004, local industrial conglomerate MG Corporation sold its 90% stake in Elkabel to Turkish businessman Fuat Guven for EUR 4.9 million.
