EVN Bulgaria Toplofikatsia, former Toplofikacia Plovdiv, which was established in 1970, is the steam heating utility operating in Bulgaria's second-largest city of Plovdiv. It is engaged in the generation of electric power and heat and heat distribution. The company supplies heat to more than 35,000 customers in Plovdiv.
In July 2006, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency launched a tender for the sale of 100% of the Plovdiv heating plant. Authorities sold the heating company to Austrian power utility EVN for EUR 32.1mn in July 2007. The buyer pledged to keep its stake in the enterprise above 51% and retain its core activity in the next three years. EVN outbid French Dalkia International, which offered EUR 25mn for Toplofikatsia Plovdiv in October 2006.
