Domain Menada is a vertically integrated wine producer, which is part of French wine and spirits group Belvedere.
The group set foot in Bulgaria in 1995 by setting up a fully-owned subsidiary called Belvedere Bulgaria.
In 2002, Belvedere established a trading company called Belvedere Distribution, which is an exclusive importer and distributor in Bulgaria of the Sobieski vodka brand that is produced by Polish industry leader Sobieski Dystrybucja, also controlled by Belvedere.
In November 2002, Belvedere acquired the assets of Bulgarian winery Menada located in the central town of Stara Zagora and founded in 1901, for an undisclosed sum.
At the time of the sale, Menada held a controlling stake in two other local wineries – Oryahovitsa and Sakar.
In October 2003, Belvedere Bulgaria acquired a 100% stake in local state-owned spirits trader Vinimpex for EUR 1.42 million.
The new owner pledged to invest EUR 775,000 in the country's former wine export monopoly over the next three years.
In early 2004, Belvedere consolidated its wine activities in Bulgaria by merging its three wineries with Belvedere Distribution and Vinimpex to form Belvedere Capital Management.
In October 2004, Belvedere Bulgaria was renamed into Domaine Menada.
The company owns and operates vineyards that grow grapes for use in its wine-making operations, vinification plants (which convert grapes into wine), bottling facilities and its wine distribution network.
