The Bulgarian Deposit Insurance Fund (BDIF) is a legal entity established by the Law on Deposit Insurance in Banks and has been in operation since January 1999. The main focus of BDIF's activities is to maintain stability in the banking system and public trust in it. Its main functions include: - Determining and collecting annual premium contributions from banks participating in the deposit insurance system. - Investing its funds in low-risk and highly liquid securities issued by top-rated issuers, as well as deposits in the Bulgarian National Bank. - Fully reimbursing the guaranteed amounts of deposits for individuals and legal entities up to the legally defined limit. - Assisting in the effective restructuring process of credit institutions in accordance with the Law on Recovery and Restructuring of Credit Institutions and Investment Intermediaries. - Protecting the interests of creditors and monitoring the activities of trustees in insolvent banks in accordance with the Law on Bank Insolvency. BDIF is governed by a five-member Executive Board. BDIF is a founding member of the International Association of Deposit Insurers and the European Forum of Deposit Insurers.
