Plastic packaging manufacturer Asenova Krepost, which was set up in 1964, is one of the biggest suppliers of plastic packaging for Bulgaria's fertiliser, cement, agriculture and food industries.
In August 1996, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold 56% of Asenova Krepost to local company Inplastrade for USD 10.5 million. Under the deal 50% of the price was paid in cash and the remaining 50% was to be paid in government bonds. The buyer also pledged to invest USD 1.41 million in the plant in a five-year period. In June 1997, the sell-off agency revised down the sale price for the 56% stake to USD 7.33 million.
The factory, based in the southern town of Asenovgrad, manufactures a wide range of plastic packaging products, including polyethylene film, plastic bags, small plastic containers, nylon sleeve designed for the packaging of sausages.
