ABB Bulgaria is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swiss engineering giant ABB Group. The local unit focuses on providing engineering solutions and electrical equipment for high, medium and low voltage as well as systems and products for technological processes automation in the energy and industrial sectors. The company operates in four main divisions - Power Systems, Power Products, Low Voltage Products, Discrete Automation and Motion. ABB Bulgaria runs four production facilities across the country - located in Sevlievo, Petrich and two in the town of Rakovski. It also operates offices in Sofia and Varna.
ABB stepped on the Bulgarian market in 1994 when it founded a low-voltage apparatus manufacturer ABB Control in the southwest town of Petrich. Around DEM 750,000 were invested in ABB Control, which launched operations in early 1996. In August 1996, ABB bought a 67% stake in local electrical manufacturer Avangard, based in the central town of Sevlievo, for USD 1.9 million. ABB Avangard had been a licensee of ABB since 1986. In 2005 ABB Control merged into ABB Bulgaria. In 2013 ABB merged all of its business units in one single company - ABB Bulgaria.
