National Tea Company Ltd. is a public limited company located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was incorporated in 1978 under the Companies Act, 1913. The company is a joint venture between the government and the general public, with the government and its financial organization holding 51% of shares and the general public holding the remaining 49%. National Tea Company Ltd. owns and operates 12 tea estates, including Patrakhola, Kurmah, Champarai, Madanmohanpur, Madabpur, Jagadishpur, Teliapara, Chundeecherra, Lackatoorah, Parkul, Premnagar, and Bejoya. These tea estates are located in the Sylhet division. The company is engaged in the business of plantation, cultivation, manufacturing, and selling of tea and rubber. It has an annual average production of about 5.20 million kg of tea. The majority of tea produced by the company is sold through the Chittagong Auction Market. In addition to wholesale trading, National Tea Company Ltd. also started local marketing of tea in a small scale through its dealers in the year 2000. The company has a sales center in its registered office that is open to all interested consumers. National Tea Company Ltd. is listed on both the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges. The company employs approximately 12,500 permanent laborers, most of whom are from ethnic groups and reside in the tea estates. The company provides subsidized food-grain, free medical facilities, free housing, pure drinking water, modern sanitation, and free primary education for the laborers and their dependents.
