British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited, located in Dhaka, is a prominent corporate entity in Bangladesh that has been operating for over 112 years. It is the largest individual tax contributor to the government and has a strong presence in the rural agri-economy. The company's socio-economic impacts have been significant and far-reaching. The history of British American Tobacco in this region dates back to 1910. Originally known as Imperial Tobacco, the company established its first sales depot in Armanitola, Dhaka. Following the partition of India in 1947, Pakistan Tobacco Company was formed. In 1949, the first factory in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) was established in Fauzdarhat, Chattogram. In 1965, the second factory of Pakistan Tobacco Company was set up in Mohakhali, Dhaka. After Bangladesh gained independence, the company changed its name to Bangladesh Tobacco Company Limited. In 1998, it further rebranded as British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BAT Bangladesh) to align its corporate identity with other operating companies in the BAT Group.
