Baraka Power Limited (Bangladesh)

Baraka Power Limited is a power generating company located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was incorporated as a Private Limited Company on June 26, 2007, and later converted to a Public Limited Company on September 25, 2008. The company won a bid from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to implement, generate, and supply electricity from a 51MW power plant in Fenchugonj, Sylhet for a period of 15 years. The power plant, which started commercial operation on October 24, 2009, uses gen-sets from GE Jenbacher and other auxiliary equipment from reliable sources. Baraka Power Limited was successfully listed on the stock exchanges on May 16, 2011. Baraka Patenga Power Limited, a subsidiary of Baraka Power Limited, signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with BPDB on July 31, 2011, to generate and supply 50MW of electricity in Patenga, Chittagong for a term of 15 years. The subsidiary company, incorporated on June 7, 2011, as a Private Limited Company and later converted to a Public Limited Company on April 28, 2014, operates a 50MW HFO fired IPP power plant in Patenga, Chittagong, which started commercial operation on May 4, 2014. The plant uses Rolls Royce engines and includes a cogeneration secondary power plant and a Desulfurization plant to reduce sulfur emission. Baraka Power Limited also has two subsidiary companies, Karnaphuli Power Limited (KPL) and Baraka Shikalbaha Power Limited (BSPL), which have started commercial operation after implementing HFO based IPP power plants with production capacities of 110MW and 105MW respectively. Baraka Patenga Power Limited holds a 51% shareholding in these subsidiary companies. The financing for the projects was provided by Bangladesh Bank IPFF project cell funded by the World Bank and local sources such as United Commercial Bank Limited, Trust Bank Limited, and BRAC Bank Limited.
