The soda factory in Lukavac (FSL) was built in 1893. The facility is located in the Canton Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 140 km North of the capital Sarajevo and 14 km West of Tuzla. When the factory first launched operations it had production capacity of 10,000 tons per year. By the end of the 20th century the factory outputs 292,000 tons per year. All of the raw materials used in the production process are accessible within 20 km. from the factory.
In mid-2006, a new company – Sisecam Soda Lukavac, was incorporated and it acquired all assets and liabilities of FSL. Soda Sanayii, part of Turkish Sisecam Group, and FSL held 80% and 20% stake in the newly-established entity respectively. Sisecam is a Turkish glass and chemical products manufacturer.
Currently, the facility produces light soda and refined sodium bicarbonate. The new owner of the factory shut down the caustic soda production line.
In mid-2009, Soda Sanayii increased its stake in the company to 85.9%.
