In November 1997, Bosnian gas company Plin Sarajevo and Germany's Messer Griesheim signed a joint venture deal to produce and distribute industrial gases.
Plin Sarajevo has provided KM 4.5 million in equipment, property and land for the project and its German partner invested KM 4.7 million in cash.
Frankfurt-based Messer Griesheim has a 51% share and Plin Sarajevo has a 49% stake in the venture, which operates under the name Messer Sarajevo Plin.
Messer Sarajevo Plin has a unit in Bosnia's southern town of Mostar, plus factories in Sarajevo, the towns of Lukavac, Kiseljak and a distribution centre in Bihac.
The investment by Messer Griesheim was designed to help pay for repairs of the Plin Sarajevo gas plant, which was heavily damaged and looted during the 1992-95 civil war in Bosnia.
Plin Sarajevo is the market leader in the industrial gases sector in Bosnia's Muslim-Croat federation.
The company supplies oxygen, CO2, propane-butane and acetylene from three production and distribution locations.
