BUNGE SA has been operating since 1908 in the exploitation of Salinas Grandes and Salinas Chicas de Anzoátegui. They are located in the town of Anzoátegui, province of La Pampa. The current production of the two salt mines exceeds 150,000 tons of salt per year, which places them among the most important in the country. In June 2002, BUNGE SA inaugurated its Salt Refinery model, specially designed, built, and assembled to supply the kitchen and industrial salt market.
