Banco Meridian S.A. was established in 1955 as Crédito Liniers S.A. to finance the sale of consumer goods. In 1989, it changed its name to Banco Liniers Sudamericano S.A. In 2003, Providian Bank was renamed Banco Meridian, after it was acquired by national capital. In 2006 the Grupo Inversor Dorrego, a national conglomerate, acquired the bank.
