Banco Itau Argentina S.A. (ex Banco Itaú Buen Ayre) is a firm which belongs to the Brazilean Banco Itau the second largest private bank in Latin America. In 1979 Banco Itau S.A. was authorized by the BCRA to operate in Argentina with an initial capital of U$S 14.000.000. From 1979 up to 1994 Banco Itaus activities in Argentina were focused on financing foreign trade operations of multinational corporations. In 1994, Itau decided to enlarge its activities in Argentina to include retail banking establishing 33 branches all along Capital Federal and the Metropolitan area of Buenos Aires with its first opening on October 1995. In May, 1998 Banco Itau acquired 100% of Banco del Buen Ayre totalizing an investment of U$S 373.5 million in Argentina. Nowadays, Banco Itau has 78 branches and one of the largest automatic cashier networks in the Metropolitan area.
